Seriously, though: if you are, do.

One of the things that troubled both Charlie and me before we came to work at Spannerworks was the very idea of a journalist working for a marketing company. That and the idea that we’d never again be able to listen to Bill Hicks and laugh without reservation.
Neither of us was sure exactly how, indeed if, we’d be able to maintain our objectivity while working in exchange for somebody’s marketing budget. The reality, I’m pleased to say, is that it’s much easier than either of us expected. Our clients vary in the degree to which they interact with and understand what we do, but with even the most hands-on we’ve been able to agree an editorial direction and get on with it.
Still, although we’re working for an ‘ethical’ company, search engine optimisation is hardly a squeaky-clean industry, a fact only too apparent when you read this Searchengineland article. The concept of “reputation link bait” alone is enough to remind me that Hicks generally saved his invective for those who deserved it.
Just keep an eye on me, please: the day I’m reading articles like this without feeling the need to have a little rant is the day that I, too, should suck on a tailpipe or borrow a gun from a Yank friend.
