A simple way to go faster than light that does not work
Dec 12th, 2007 by handolio
I’m not happy.
I worked for too many years in IT, and if there’s one lesson that you’d think I would have learned from my time there it’s that faster is not always better.
This would, on early evidence, seem to apply to my internet connection, which was upgraded about a week ago from a faultless 8Mbit service to a new, spangly 24Mbit ADSL2+ job which doesn’t work reliably at all.
It wouldn’t be such a problem, but I have freelance to write and no other way to find out everything I need to know about the $100 laptop in order to explain to other people how it works. I have a post I wanted to write for Living, and 10 (literally) online backup services for which I must sign up and download the client application.
Oh, and it’s my turn in two Scrabulous games.
Just about the only site I seem to be able to access reliably is the Hackbash back end, which is why you, dear reader, are stuck with this God-awful grumpy stream of consciousness stuff.
Sorry.

My Give One Get One $100 laptop should hopefully be with me in January.
I don’t know when the deadline for your article is but if you want a peek at the laptop when it is here just let me know. To be honest even if you don’t need a look for the article you will probably want a look anyway just out of sheer geek curiosity.
