Police declare war on the government

At first glance, this headline would appear to be fairly major news. The sort of thing that one might expect to see mentioned in any casual sampling of reliable internet news sources. Something, I’d even go so far as to say, that could knock Diana off the front page of the Express.
As it turns out, only the Telegraph ran with it, and from where I’m sitting several hours later society still seems remarkably intact.
To be fair, the Metropolitan Police Federation did apparently say that it was “at war” with the government, but the paper seems to have embraced this with a surfeit of zeal.
Is it just possible that the chosen image – that of serried ranks of riot police atop a flaming background – could convey the wrong message?
Or could the stretched twig of peace be at melting point after all?
