Heads up - Jesus Camp
May 6th, 2008 by cpev
This looks worth a watch: Jesus Camp on this evening at 11.05 in the UK, on Channel 4. (thanks to Drink-soaked Trotskyite Popinjays for WAR for the heads-up)
It brings to mind Richard Dawkins’ assertion in The God Delusion that there’s no such things a Christian child, or a Muslim child, or a Jewish child, because children are too young to decide what they think on matters of theology. Having thought carefully about this as an adult, I’m inclined to agree.

Oops, missed this (thanks Si) - looks like Jesus Camp took its toll on the Jesus camp a while back.

Recorded it - might be on iPlayer, too, maybe?
Not given that it was on Channel 4, rather than the BBC.
I’ve always thought that the attempt to educate your kids with your religious views (or your political ones, come to that) was doomed, doomed, doomed, because what’s the first thing kids do when they become teenagers?
Reject 90% of what you’ve tried to instil in them.
Cheers Tom
Haven’t used 4OD yet, but the film is apparently available there for 7 days. [Digression: this makes me wonder whether I really want to have iPlayer AND 4OD AND ITV’s new on-demand app all installed alongside one another on my computer. Open source TV player anyone?]
@Adam - I hope you’re right about the 90% rejection rate. Although not in the case of my heathen kids of course
Don’t like to worry you, but a majority of the Christians (and New Age Pagans / Wiccans, come to that) I know were raised by atheists….
Duh - must put a coin in my brain meter before commenting in future, sorry
I did try 4OD for work when it was new. It does work, but it’s one of those awkward ‘let’s make it a web application, but one that only works in IE6 and requires a local installation anyhow’ contraptions that seem so common.. Either do it online, and do it properly so it works in FF, or just write a proper application already.
If only Handolio watched TV, I’m sure he’d have something useful* to say about this.
