Nick, bless him, recently shored-up my self-esteem no end by posting Bill Hicks’ if anyone here is in advertising, or marketing, kill yourself routine. Hicks may be long gone, alas, but his spirit menaces iCrossing’s Content & Media department, proffering guns from a Yank friend at opportune moments.
Truth be told, there are times when it’s hard to be a journalist working for a marketing company. There are many out there who would flatly refuse to accept that it’s even possible. Sometimes I wonder myself.
And then I spot things like the sponsored - but not labelled as such - search bar at the bottom of the News of the World’s front page, and I turn over and sleep like a baby.
Yep. That would do it. God bless the negative moral compass that is dodgy marketing on newspaper sites. Where the guardians of the fourth estate live…
