New <> iconic

Now look, I’ve been turning a blind eye to this but enough is enough. Copywriters everywhere, please pay attention.
Iconic means relating to, or having the characteristics of an icon. An icon is something ‘that stands for its object by virtue of a resemblance or analogy to it’.
I think one can, perhaps, describe the iPod as iconic, inasmuch as it has become shorthand for the MP3 player. Please don’t, though - it’s horribly tired.
I could be wrong on this, but I’m pretty sure that it’s inappropriate to describe anything new as iconic, unless it’s meant to be worshipped as a representation of something sacred.
And wrong or not, it’s irrelevant if the rest of the copy is arse.
