Simon Burke
Oct 26th, 2008 by handolio
I’ve been meaning to write this for a while. To tell the truth, I feel a bit guilty that I didn’t before, but shit has happened.
Simon Burke is a friend of mine through Emma. Somewhere near the beginning of 2007 he managed to find himself accompanying a drug-smuggler through Peruvian customs. You can read the full (rather sensationalised) story here.
There isn’t any question of his innocence. He served 10 months in a Peruvian prison, and is still stuck in the country, unable to leave until Peru’s glacial justice system gets around to trying the drug-smuggler he unwittingly accompanied.
You could, I hope, put pressure on the UK government to intervene by joining this Facebook group, and by signing this petition.
Thanks.

Thanks for posting this Si, we need as many people as possible to put pressure on the UK government and the UK representative in Lima both of whom have been completely useless so far.
Great news: Simon’s finally been pardoned and is free to come home.
I’m not sure if any of you signed the petition, but if you did - thanks.
