How to fix Word 2007’s paragraph spacing
Apr 23rd, 2009 by handolio
I was always happy with hitting Enter once and getting one carriage return – you knew where you were with the deal – but Word 2007 has better ideas.
If its default behaviour – which is to insert two line breaks each time you hit Enter – bothers you, here’s how you turn it off:
1 Make sure you’re on the Home tab of the Office ribbon.
2 Click the unimaginably tiny arrow in the bottom right corner to open the Paragraph dialogue box.

3 Under Spacing, change the After value from 10pt to 0pt.
4 Check Don’t add space between paragraphs of the same style.
5 Click Default… to apply these settings to all new documents.
6 Click OK.
7 Now choke back the rage as you have to repeat steps 1-4, then click OK again to apply the changes to the document you’re actually working on.
Perhaps somebody knows of a reason why they changed it? If I’m honest, it’s so long since I installed my creaking, ancient copy of Office that I can’t be sure it wasn’t always like that.

Confession: every time I set up a new copy of Word 2003 I have to go into the paragraph settings and perform the exact opposite of this, expanding the spacing. So I guess Microsoft changed it on my account – shame I don’t have a copy of 2007.
I think your readership should be told that your new haircut looks lovely. Now all we need to do is get @Cpev to go skinhead again and iCrossing would be paradise.
Simon’s haircut does look hot now. Even more so when you compare to the driving licence picture I saw this morning (Lion from Wizard of Oz).
I’m not going skinhead again anytime soon, but then it’s a style that is forever achievable for an ageing male.
Anyway, Chris, when are you going to get dreads?
