Word multi-task fail

You may not have noticed it; it’s normally only displayed momentarily on the status bar.
However, if you have a printer that’s slow to respond you’ll often have time to read it and reflect on its irony – hell, even make a cup of tea – while Word prepares not to intrude.
The Mac version has a similar foible; often, when you quit the app – y’know, when shutting down at the end of the day, for example – it will display an apparently pointless rectangle with just the words ‘Word is connecting to the printer’ for some many seconds. Why? Why are you? There are no documents open, no documents being printed! And why are you stopping the fucking app from quitting anyway?
