Brain drained

We’ve been doing a nice line in lazy blogging lately. My excuse is I’ve been swamped with freelance at the same time as work went crazy. I was trying to work tonight, but (sorry Dave) it’s just not happening. A couple of weeks back I wrote a post about the state of the economy, but [...]

An interesting post on Antony’s blog has drawn me into a thread about the commercials behind journalism. In essence, Roy Greenslade has challenged Philip M Stone’s “heretical thought” that papers return to print-first publishing, but he doesn’t suggest an alternative revenue model. Antony notes iCrossing’s experiments with new models of journalism. Meanwhile, Paul Bradshaw (in [...]

Staying on target

Happy one indeed, and big thanks to Handolio for doing all the hard work. He’s the Hackbash behemoth. I’m just the, um, moth. Personally I think we’ve done a good job of focussing on the original topic; working through the possibilities for real online journalism in a marketing environment. Now here’s a video of two [...]

Every now and then on the internet you come across some boring old bastard with an axe to grind about some company that’s pissed them off lately. Sweary Mary

Everything’s been feeling just a little joyless of late. Tamsin has even been moved to ask if this is the Summer of Doom. Bugger me, I’m not arguing. I think I might have inspired the question. So, when AntonyM sent this link to Giles Coren’s latest tirade I could almost have kissed him. If you [...]

It was the BBC what won it

There were many factors involved in the epic Wimbledon final last weekend, but I hadn’t counted on the influence of the schedulers at the BBC. Many scheduled programmes, including the news, were shifted to BBC Two as the sporting drama unfolded, eventually resulting in Nadal’s win at 2130 BST.

Nick, bless him, recently shored-up my self-esteem no end by posting Bill Hicks’ if anyone here is in advertising, or marketing, kill yourself routine. Hicks may be long gone, alas, but his spirit menaces iCrossing’s Content & Media department, proffering guns from a Yank friend at opportune moments. Truth be told, there are times when [...]

I expect I’m not alone in noticing some entertaining needling between the Guardian and Telegraph in recent months, as the two scrap for first loser when it comes to web views – the BBC leads by a mile, The Mail snaps at their heels. No doubt it’s driven by valid concerns and genuine differences, the [...]
